Proofreading/Editing Services

When proofreading/editing your work, we will look for and correct problems in the following areas:

  • Spelling
  • Punctuation
  • Grammar
  • Word choice
  • Transitions
  • Clarity
  • Basic sentence structure

Proofreading/Editing Rates

  • Our standard proofreading/editing rate is $30 per hour. 
  • Writing specialists can typically proofread/edit between 8-10 standard typed pages (double-spaced, 12-pt font, 1-inch margins) per hour.  Therefore, $30 per hour equates to
    • approximately $3-$3.50 per standard page for print edits; or
    • approximately $3 per 250-300 words for non-print edits (e.g., web content).
  • A minimum charge of $15 per order is required.
  • An extra fee may be charged for "Rush Delivery" jobs; these are typically jobs requiring immediate turnaround (same-day), but rush delivery status may vary depending on the length of the job.  If rush delivery is necessary, the fee will be quoted directly to the client when the original request for service is made.  Rush delivery may not be available for longer jobs.

Revising Services

Revising services include identification and correction of any problems in the areas listed under proofreading/editing services, as well as in-depth contextual changes in the following areas:

  • Sentence structure
  • Paragraph structure
  • Content and meaning
  • Cohesion
  • Development
  • Overall organization
  • Overall impact

Revising Rates

  • The standard rate for revising services is also $30 per hour; however, because revising is much more extensive, it takes a longer amount of time to revise than it does to proofread/edit. 
  • As a guide, writing specialists can typically revise approximately 5 standard typed pages per hour.  
  • The same "Minimum Order" and "Rush Delivery" standards described under proofreading/editing services apply to revising services. 

Other Services

  • Citation Check:  Writing specialists can cross-check your citations/references and verify correct individual citation entries and overall citation style.
  • Formatting:  If your work is expected to follow certain formatting guidelines, we can ensure that it does so if you provide us with a copy of those requirements.
  • Typing:  For handwritten materials, we offer typing services using Microsoft Word.
  • Individual Consultation:  Consultation services are available for clients who would like personal, professional feedback about their work; this service is often used by authors of creative works—such as poetry, short stories, novels, biographies, or screenplays—but is available to anyone.
  • Workshops: Our specialists are available to develop and present workshops on a variety of topics, including grammar, proofreading and editing, creative writing, and True Colors® personality inventory.  Pricing is based on number of participants and types of supplemental materials needed.  This service is only available "locally" (within 75 miles of College Station, Texas).
